The Ponte Vedra Lady Sharks followed up last week’s impressive conference win over Matanzas with a 6-0 win over the visiting Palatka Panthers on Monday evening and in doing so improved to 5-0 in the conference and 10-2-4 on the season.
Angeline Daly’s hustle put the Sharks on top when she brought the ball up the left side of the field, crossed to the middle and drove a blistering shot past the Palatka keeper eight minutes after the starting whistle.
Ponte Vedra benefited from a hand-ball in the box to earn a penalty kick that Julia Worman rattled off the keeper then the left upright and into the cage for the Sharks’ second goal.
Tatum Taucher pushed the Shark advantage to 3-0 as Ponte Vedra peppered the Panther goal practically at will. Before the half ended, Piper Dostikas hit the post on a shot and Jordan Grune’s rebound just sailed wide by inches.
While the Sharks did not score again in the first half, their total domination of play with most of the starters in the game was evident by the fact that Palatka did not have a throw-in in the Shark end of the pitch until the final two minutes of the first half. In fact the visitors did not have a shot on goal in the entire game even while sitting most of the starters in the second half.
The second forty minutes started as Mary Stephens bumped the Shark’s lead to 4-0 converting Abby Millers’ rebound on a Piper Dostikas’ corner kick.
Daly celebrated her return to action with her second goal of the night, this on a long drive at the 30-minute mark to put Ponte Vedra up 5-0.
Sophie Lesher finished the scoring for the Sharks when she banged home a rebound that came right to her following the Panther keeper’s good save on Grune’s point blank shot.
