Lady Sharks top Atlantic in softball matchup

The Sharks’ softball team is off to a good start after posting a 6-2 home win over Atlantic Coast on Thursday evening. Freshman pitcher Michele Holder pitched the entire game for the Sharks allowing 9 hits and striking out 10.

Ponte Vedra scored a pair of runs in the opening frame on two walks and Maddie Sypniewski’s double. The Sting Rays answered with two runs in the top of the third on a walk and two singles.

Ponte Vedra regained the lead in the fourth inning on singles by Holder and Abby Zitello and Michelle Leone’s double. They added two more insurance runs in the sixth on doubles by Leone and Quinlan Richmond and a 2 RBI single by catcher Taylor Bradshaw.

The win improved the Sharks record to 2-0 including an 8-7 nail-biter over Fletcher earlier in the week. After Ponte Vedra jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the Lady Senators scored seven times in the third inning. The Sharks answered with two more in the third and three in the fourth to tie the game then won it with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Ponte Vedra will play again on Feb. 8 and 11 at home against Creekside and Ridgeview.
