One of Us

Linda George

Posted

After growing up in the area, Linda George was looking for a way to give back to her local community, and as a lover of golf, she turned to THE PLAYERS. She celebrated her 50th anniversary as a volunteer at THE PLAYERS, with 27 years at the hospitality zone located at the famed No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass. Although she now calls the 17th hospitality zone her volunteer home during the championship, she has also worked on several various other committees and roles throughout the years. She enjoys the time she spends each year with her volunteer family at THE PLAYERS.

Tell us about your background and where you are from?

My entire family was born in Jacksonville, and we later moved to St. Augustine.

What led you to get involved with THE PLAYERS?

I wanted to get involved in a community service and as a longtime lover of golf, I just knew THE PLAYERS was a perfect opportunity.

What have your roles as a volunteer been over the years, and have they changed?

I have had the pleasure of serving on several committees over the years from working in leaderboards, the media center, special events, communications and three senior tournaments. I now have 27 years chairing the 17th hospitality zone.

What do you enjoy most about the experience year after year?

What I love the most is seeing returning volunteers and returning clients, many who have become lifetime friends over the years.

I believe you help with hospitality at No. 17. What is the interaction like with those attending during tournament week?

Our interaction is very important to ensure that our clients and their guests have a good time and take back wonderful memories of their week at THE PLAYERS and their stay in our area.

The volunteers at THE PLAYERS seem like a fun group. What is it like working side by side with your fellow volunteers?

We are more than a fun group; we are a Family.  We support and respect each committee's duties and when needed are always there to assist others.

What is amazing to me, is living in the same city and rarely seeing each other until tournament week.

What do you enjoy most about living in the Northeast Florida area?

For me, it's my family!  I love our weather, our beautiful beaches and enjoying the Jaguars’ experience.

What do you like to do in your free time for fun?

I love to play mahjong, backgammon, and enjoy taking mini travel excursions.
