Local Girl Scouts bring feast to families

Posted

The Girl Scout Troop 843 of Landrum Middle School found a way to give back to the community in pursuit of a cadette badge recently by providing meals and Publix gift cards to 10 local families.

The girls first coached themselves on “comparison shopping” and studied weekly ads, prices per ounce and brands to find a budget-friendly store. They then made lists of non-perishable items for families to enjoy for a Thanksgiving feast, and used a portion of their cookie sales money for the groceries.

The girls hand-delivered the bags of food Nov. 21 to the families at the Homeless Coalition of St. Augustine.
