Local spa offers members unique way to thank healthcare workers, first responders

A lot of people across the country are staying home, but that doesn’t mean they’re relaxing. The COVID-19 crisis has put more stress on families, with kids out of school, and gyms and other activities closed and/or canceled.

Then, there are those who still have to work away from home and family. Essential employees like healthcare workers, first responders and grocery store employees. The stress on them is compounded by the threat of contracting the disease while providing valuable and life-saving services for those in the community.

It was because of this Spavia, a luxury day spa, decided when it was able to open again, to pay it forward to those who meant so much during the crisis.

“For us, since we’ve opened, it’s been really important for us to be a part of the community and to give back,” said Chris Stoll, owner of Spavia located at the Nocatee Town Center in Ponte Vedra. “This seems like a prime opportunity. I’ve been personally inspired by the acts of kindness we’ve seen and really just want to do our part.”

Spavia is allowing its members to donate their points to first responders, healthcare workers or other essential employees of their choosing. The local Spavia, which has 500 members, is allowing those members to donate treatments, and Stoll and his wife Emily are matching all of the donations made. If members don’t have a specific person in mind to donate to, Spavia is devising a nomination process, so the treatments can get to those in the community who have done so much. So far, the spa has received 34 donations, and have matched it for a total of 68.

Spavia offers facials, skincare, massages, body wraps, waxing and more.

“First responders and healthcare workers are under such stressful and extreme circumstances, and it may be a great stress reducer for them when this is all over,” Stoll said.
