Planet Swim Aquatics in Ponte Vedra Beach recently sent three local athletes to compete at Florida Swimming’s All-Star Meet in Fort Pierce.
Annie Wohlgemuth, Lucas Mijares and Mary Agnes Smith qualified for the meet by placing in the top six in their events at the Florida Age Group Championship Meet in February in Orlando. The three young athletes brought home top-10 finishes in 14 events at the All-Star Meet.
Additionally, Planet Swim Aquatics coach Ailton Temotio Jr. was selected by his peers to serve as coach of the 13-14-year-old girls at the Florida All-Star Meet.
“I wanted our swimmers to have fun at this meet,” Temotio said. “This is a once-a-year opportunity to swim with the best of the best in Florida and I was so pleased with their swims. These athletes train hard and we saw those results in the pool.”
Highlights of the weekend included:
• Wohlgemuth’s first place in the 200-medley relay, second place in the mixed 200-medley relay, fifth place in the 200 backstroke, sixth place in the 100 backstroke and seventh place in the 100 butterfly
• Smith’s second place in the 100 butterfly, fourth place in the 50 butterfly, sixth place in the 500 freestyle and eighth place in the 100 freestyle and 100 IM
• Mijares’ 10th place in the 100 breaststroke and 10th place in the mixed 200-medley relay.
