The public is invited to attend an informational presentation on IMEP, the Integrative Memory Enhancement Program, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Friday, May 9, at the Bartram Trail Branch of the St. Johns County Public Library, 60 Davis Pond Blvd., Fruit Cove. To register to attend, contact presenter, IMEP Manager Susan Miller, at 904-729-9535.

Created by Council on Aging (COA), the IMEP program is a dynamic and innovative response to memory loss. IMEP is a structured, research-based program designed to integrate mind, body and brain connections to boost cognitive reserve and minimize the progression of memory loss or dementia. The program employs specific cognitive and physical exercises designed for seniors and utilizes healing modalities that support overall brain and body function.

IMEP provides a dignified, supportive and nonjudgmental environment for participants. A light-hearted atmosphere, authentic dialogue and engaging social interaction are the hallmarks of every IMEP class. Each day’s class focuses on a different brain topic; for example, flexible thinking, spatial orientation, communication or reasoning. The day’s activities then support and stimulate that brain function.

IMEP is offered in two-hour, three-hour and five-hour program formats at locations in St. Johns County in a relaxed classroom environment that encourages camaraderie. The five-hour program includes lunch. The program is also available online for home use.

In addition, the IMEP program is being leased for use and successfully implemented by agencies that serve seniors throughout the United States.
