Michelle and Jack Floyd make up The Floyd Group, in which the mother and son tandem make up a pair of renowned Realtors with deep roots in the Ponte Vedra Beach community. The two have rejoined the ranks of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty along with more than $905 million in career sales.
Tell us a little about yourselves and your backgrounds.
Michelle: I’m originally from Washington D.C. but went to school at the University of Tampa and I have two degrees in economics and psychology, and I’m not sure which one has helped me more as a Realtor, but both have been vital.
I planned to go into law school but that did not work out and now I have more than 30 years of experience in real estate.
I was involved with the development of Marsh Landing and sold the first house there.
Jack: I was born and raised here and ended up going to school for psychology and after school went into the development and building side of things just like my dad.
I wound up living in the Bahamas for 10 years and around 2016 moved back to Jacksonville and began working for a local builder for about a year before I went to Sotheby’s.
What is it about ONE Sotheby’s that brought you on board?
Jack: The name is internationally known, and our clientele is used to expecting a certain service level that is unique.
It was immediately like talking to family and the vibe is like that for everyone involved.
Michelle: They check on you and really care about their clients. It’s not all about the money as the motivating factor.
Jack: The reach Sotheby’s has with my mom having her knowledge of the Ponte Vedra area is a great combination to have.
How have you seen the real estate business change over the years?
Michelle: In this business you must be extremely flexible with the times. But I guess that’s also what makes it fun.
You spend a lot of time in the office, but you also get to go out and see the properties to get familiar with them and the area you are selling in.
Jack: The way Sotheby’s simplifies everything on its platform when it comes to accessing brochures and with emails makes all the difference.
It’s all there so that you can break down something in a matter of minutes, if a customer asks a certain question.
Michelle: Every month we get a summary that’s very detailed and you can reach out to different offices to share information
Jack: All that they offer can be mind-blowing but the shortcuts it presents is so worth it.
What are some of the aspects that remain consistent?
Jack: You have to remember that you’re still dealing with people and that part of it will never change.
That is where the experience that Michelle has is probably the most important aspect of what we do.
It’s like having Tom Brady with two minutes left in the game.
What type of properties do you specialize in?
Michelle: We specialize in country clubs and gated communities which are very popular in Ponte Vedra proper.
Jack: There is not a street or house that we don’t know, and we know it like the back of our hand, but Ponte Vedra is also so easy to talk good about because everything you need is right here and convieant for them.
Michelle: We try our best to help offer guidance about the local schools and libraries because they really need to know all the aspects that go into it before they make a big decision like this.
It makes a difference to give our customers a well-rounded view.
What do you have planned for the future?
Jack: I go on the five-year plan and it’s just to continue to grow as a business for our clients to continue to be happy with their home purchases.
Michelle: There are times to have fun and then there are times to get serious. We like to remember to have fun and enjoy the aspects of our job.
Jack: If you enjoy what you do, it’s not so much work.
What do you enjoy most about living in the North Florida area?
Jack: In our off time we are big water people, so you can find us around anything pertaining to the water.
