Mock trial team does well in competitions

Flagler College’s mock trial team, sponsored by the State of Midlands and Thompson Hall, achieved remarkable success in several competitions during the 2024-25 season. Under the guidance of their faculty adviser, Jonathan Growick, the team showcased their skills in critical thinking, teamwork and trial tactics, earning multiple awards and recognition.

  • Lindsey Orellana of St. Augustine, majoring in criminology, served as the team's co-captain and an attorney for the plaintiff during the competitions.
  • Emily Swestyn of St. Augustine, majoring in business administration, served as a witness during the competitions.
  • Renad Morsi of St. Augustine, majoring in political science, served as a witness for the defense during the competitions.
  • Jenlee Vega of St. Augustine, majoring in criminology, served as a witness for the plaintiff during the competitions.

The team participated in several notable events, including the FIU Golden Panthers Invitational in October, the USF Bull Bowl in January and the AMTA Regional Competition at Florida State University in Tallahassee in February. Highlights from the Golden Panthers Invitational include Alanah Nash winning the Outstanding Witness Award. At the Tallahassee Regionals, the team excelled with notable performances, including winning three out of four ballots in the defense round.

The success of Flagler College’s mock trial team highlights the dedication and collaborative spirit of its members. Through their participation in mock trial competitions, the team remains committed to fostering excellence in law, litigation and public speaking.
