The Municipal Service District (MSD) of Ponte Vedra Beach held their monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 12, at the Ponte Vedra Branch Library.
The MSD board approved their budget for the new fiscal year on Sept. 24, which included the approval of funding for phase 1 of the sidewalk project. Phase 1 of the sidewalk project starts at Golf View Circle and goes to Pablo Road. Several residents were in attendance on Monday to show their support for the project and to thank the board for funding the first phase.
During the meeting, the board approved submission of the phase 1 right-of-way construction permit application to St. Johns County. The sidewalk project has a total of three phases and one of the big questions still surrounding the project is whether or not St. Johns County will help to fund any of it.
One of the deciding factors for the county will be what happens with Amendment 3 this November. If it is passed, Amendment 3 would reduce property taxes for millions of homeowners across the state, but it would also significantly cut revenue for local governments.
The board also announced that the FCC would be holding a shredding event at the Ponte Vedra Library on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Approved items for shredding include personal documents, white or colored papers and file folders. Restricted items include three-ring binders and cardboard. Residents may also bring lithium batteries that are no longer good for safe recycling.
