Congressional candidates to speak

Ponte Vedra Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Road, Ponte Vedra Beach. Meet two of the Democratic candidates for U.S. Congressional District 5. Rachel Grage and Alex Hazen will participate in a “Meet the Press” format where they will answer questions on topics such as health care, affordability, Immigration and Middle East conflicts.

Pickleball tournament planned

Communities In Schools of Jacksonville will host its inaugural Paddles to Tassels Pickleball Tournament Saturday, June 6, at ChipShot on Atlantic Boulevard in Jacksonville.

The event — open to advanced, intermediate, beginning and youth players — is a fundraiser benefiting local public school students served by the nonprofit organization. Event plans include:

  •  beginner clinics for all ages
  • mixed doubles social round robin tournament for intermediate and experienced players, for kids age 8 and older, teens and adults (winners will receive trophies!) 
  • yard games, ping pong, basketball hoops, arcade games and premium golf simulators

For more than 35 years, Communities In Schools of Jacksonville has helped students and families overcome academic, social and economic challenges. Through case management, literacy, afterschool and workforce programs, the organization has supported more than 111,000 local students on their path to success in school and in life.

Farmers market open every Friday
