Garden Club bestows scholarships

Six area students recently received $2,000 scholarships from the Garden Club of St. Augustine. They will be recognized on May 13 at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Garden Club beginning 9:30 a.m. at 3440 Old Moultrie Road. All are welcome. Attendees are encouraged to carpool. The recipients are:

  • Sadie Boss, Pedro Menendez High School, will attend Santa Fe State College and plans to major in environmental science 
  • Soleil Shah, Ponte Vedra High School, will attend Florida State University and intends to study environmental science 
  • Phoebe Barzo, St. Augustine High School, will attend University of Central Florida and plans to major in wildlife ecology and conservation with a minor in environmental science 
  • Cassie Garris, Creekside High School, will attend Florida State University and plans to major in environmental engineering 
  • Alivia Kubart, University of Florida, field of study is environmental engineering with a minor in ecology and conservation
  • Blair Clark, University of Florida, field of study is wildlife ecology and conservation with a minor in botany 

Grief support group to meet

A grief support group meets on the third Wednesday of every month at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in the Fr. Kelly Room of the Kelly Athletic Center, 212 Fifth Street N., Jacksonville Beach. The group is for men and women grieving the death of a family member or friend. The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 20. For information, call Kathy at 904-553-8933.

Learn more about essential tremor

Not every older person has the shakes! Learn about ET at the next meeting of the Essential Tremor (ET) Support Group, 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Baptist HealthPlace at Nocatee, 400 Colonnade Drive, Unit 130, Ponte Vedra. Everyone is welcome — those with tremor and those without — friends, family and caregivers alike. Hear Dr. Anjali Gupta, a board-certified internist with advanced experience treating senior-aged adults, who will discuss “Overall Wellness & Essential Tremor.” For further information or to RSVP, email jkary@verizon.net.
