Foundation marks 30 years with $300K in scholarships

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation (MWYF) celebrated its 30th anniversary by awarding $300,000 in scholarships to students participating in its youth development programs during its annual scholarship ceremony on April 1.

The ceremony marked the largest scholarship investment in the foundation’s history, more than doubling last year’s record total of $125,000 awarded to graduating seniors and program participants pursuing higher education.

This year’s event was held at the Emmett Reed Community Center, the site where MWYF first launched its programs 30 years ago before expanding to its current youth development centers that now serve hundreds of Jacksonville students each year.

The ceremony brought together scholarship recipients, families and community supporters to celebrate the students’ academic achievements and continued commitment to higher education.

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is an afterschool and summer youth development program in Jacksonville’s urban core that promotes academic achievement and positive life skills. MWYF’s mission is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities.
