Red Bull Night Riders returning to Jacksonville Beach

Red Bull Night Riders, one of the premier surfing contests on the entire East Coast, is an annual tradition in Jacksonville Beach. Every year pro surfers compete against each other in the darkness of night to see who can pull off the best big air trick.

Typically held in front of thousands of surf fans, last year saw the event go forward without a crowd for the first time. But this Nov. 6, spectators are welcome back on the beach to enjoy the stars and the surf, along with the big air and big wipeouts that make Red Bull Night Riders fun to watch.

The surfers will be judged on their best trick of their heat, with the winner taking home the entire prize purse of $5,000. Participants this year include defending champ and Jacksonville native Cody Thompson, who won last year’s event at the Mayport Poles.

Competitors also include pros Bronson Meydi, Ian Crane, Robbie McCormick, Evan Geiselman and Parker Coffin.

The event will start at 6 p.m. on the north side of the Jacksonville Beach pier.

Pork butt orders being taken for fundraiser

Following the success of his pork butt fundraiser in 2020, Mike Sobiecki is hosting another one this November. Sobiecki is a member of the advisory board of Make-A-Wish Northern Florida, which will be the beneficiary of the event.

The deadline to order a 7-9 lb. Boston butt is Nov. 5. The cost is $75 each.

To reserve a pork butt, email pork4wishes@gmail.com with the following information: name, phone number, email address, number of pork butts purchasing and estimated pick-up time. Payment may be made by cash, check or Venmo at the time of pick-up.

The order includes one bottle of Killer Hog BBQ Sauce.

Pick-up will be between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at 1244 Fish Hook Way, Ponte Vedra Beach.
