Nocatee Community to hold spring family camp out March 25

Nocatee will be holding a family camp out March 25 at Nocatee Station Field for the residents in its community only.

According to Hanna Davis, Nocatee community events manager, they hold two family camp outs each year, with one in the fall and the other in the spring.

Because the events only take place twice a year they are always highly anticipated and something that Nocatee residents look forward to.

“Everyone always seems to really enjoy themselves,” Davis said. “It’s really great because it doesn’t cost a whole lot and they don’t have to go far to get the whole experience.”

Tickets are $6 apiece and include a hot dog, bag of chips and two marshmallows for roasting. A movie will also be shown to families camping out, although the title of the film has not yet been decided.

Davis advised families to bring the necessary supplies needed if they wish to make s’mores, such as the graham crackers and chocolate to go with the marshmallows provided.

Other than the tent, families are encouraged to bring any other outside activities or games they wish to, such as footballs or yard games.

Check-in and setup for the camp out will begin at 5:30 p.m. on March 25, while tickets will initially go on sale online March 13 at 4 p.m.

“We’ve always been sold out for our camp outs,” Davis said. “And this year we’ve even increased the number of families welcome to attend.”

That number of available campers went up 100 people from 400 in previous years to 500 this year.

Davis hinted that the number could go up even more, but 500 seemed like the perfect number at this time not so much due to the space on the field but when it comes to organizing and providing food to all those people without overloading the kitchen and staff.

According to Davis, anyone who buys a ticket will be sent an email with a checklist and break down of what to expect and bring to the camp out.

“The feedback has always been great, and families are always just really excited to enjoy their time together,” Davis said.
