PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces July events

The following programs will be held at COA’s The PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in July.  Most activities are weekly and begin July 1. This is only a partial list. Note that the center will be closed on Friday, July 4, due to the holiday and July 28 through Aug. 8 for new flooring renovations. Lunch — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 1, from noon to 1 p.m.  Registration is required a week in advance, and the required fee is $5 per meal due upon arrival.

Lunch — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, July 3, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance, and the required fee is $5 per meal due upon arrival.

Duplicate Bridge: Three weeks on Fridays, starting July 11 from noon to 3 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person, per Friday. You must have a partner and experience to play.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all levels to participate or learn. Three weeks on Fridays, starting July 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required is $6.25 per class or $25 per month (includes months with five weeks).

Open Painting: Five weeks on Wednesdays, starting July 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No fee required; bring your own supplies.  

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 1, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Canasta — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mexican Train Dominoes: Five weeks on Tuesdays, starting July 1 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Free Blood Pressure Check with Diane DeCarlo: Thursday, July 31, 10-11 a.m. 

Bingo — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, July 1, 1-2 p.m. Fee is $1 per card

Bingo — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, July 3, 1-2 p.m.  Fee is $1 per card

Social Bridge: Five weeks on Wednesdays, starting July 2 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Let’s Play Board Games: Rummikub, Scrabble, Yahtzee, Cards and more! Enjoy socializing and making new friends while participating in some friendly competition; five weeks on Wednesdays, starting July 2 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wii Bowling: Five weeks on Thursdays, starting 10-11 a.m. July 3

Computer Room: Available Tuesdays through Fridays during open hours; general assistance available

Hurricane Preparedness: St. Johns County Emergency Management will teach us how to prepare our homes, understand evacuation zones, prepare a disaster preparedness kit and many other items to keep our families safe. Plus, get answers to questions or concerns you may have at the end of the presentation. Tuesday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“Let’s Play Jeopardy!” Test your knowledge with Deborah Hall from UnderstoodCare. She will not only provide you with an hour of fun and laughs, but also resources for Medicare support and care advocates. Thursday, July 3, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Toastmasters: Our members have many interesting stories to tell. This hour several members of our local Toastmasters Club will be here to empower and encourage you to tell yours! A lot can be learned in a little amount of time. Share a past personal experience or fascinating fact. Tuesday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to noon. 

Cruise Party: Director of Sales Denise Bolton, with Discovery Commons San Pablo, sets sail at The PLAYERS with festive décor, music and more on Thursday, July 10, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Jivin’ with Ivan Birthday Party: Everyone will be celebrating July birthdays with song and dance. Thursday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Gardening 101: How is your green thumb? Master Gardener Barbara Purple will share “tips and tricks” for general gardening. Tuesday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Annual Financial Report: Clerk Brandon Patty will review St. Johns County’s Popular Annual Financial Report. Learn how your tax dollars are going to work on Thursday, July 24, from 11 to noon.
