Ponte Vedra attorney to lead local trial advocates board

Ponte Vedra Beach civil trial lawyer David M. Dunlap of Dunlap, Ravis & Miller was sworn in by Judge Tyrie Boyer as the 2021 chapter president at the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) annual meeting and awards ceremony on Dec. 16.

Dunlap specializes in the area of personal injury and wrongful death litigation and trials. He has been a member of the Florida Bar for more than 30 years. Dunlap, Ravis & Miller maintains offices in the Riverside area and on State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Dunlap has been a member of ABOTA since 2009 and has held various leadership positions with the organization. In 2016 he received the Chapter Civility Award, which is given to the member who has done the most in the past year to elevate the standards of integrity, honor and courtesy in the Jacksonville legal community. Dunlap was honored by the Jacksonville Chapter again in 2018 with the Chapter President’s Award.

ABOTA is a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges.

It consists of more than 7,600 lawyers across the country, equally balanced between plaintiff and defense counsel, as well as judges spread among the 96 chapters in all 50 States.

ABOTA is an invitation-only organization. Members must have active experience as civil trial lawyers, have tried at least 10 civil jury trials to conclusion as lead counsel and must possess additional litigation experience and proficiency.

Members must also exhibit the virtues of civility, integrity and professionalism by following the ABOTA Code of Professionalism and Principles of Civility. Its members are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the right to civil jury as provided by the 7th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The Jacksonville Chapter, one of the largest in the country, consists of 104 members. It presents educational and community programs, including the Teacher’s Law School, the 7th Amendment Symposium for Middle School Students, the James Otis Lecture Series on Constitution Day and the Gary Pajcic Professionalism-Civility Matters Program for lawyers throughout the state.
