PV golf local, freshman excels on Elon University’s team

Philip Loeb is having an impressive freshman year for the Elon University men’s golf team.

The Ponte Vedra Beach resident led Elon by finishing 12th at the Loyola Intercollegiate, the team’s first tournament of the spring. He shot a 211 (68-71-72).

Loeb had a 73.00 scoring average in four fall tournaments. He had the third lowest average among eight Phoenix as the lone freshman in the group. His best finish was a tie for third place at the first tournament of the school year, the Golfweek Program Challenge in September. He carded a 206 (70-69-67).

More men’s golf

Warner University’s Gabriel Bell tied for 15th at the Warner Invitational. The Allen D. Nease graduate shot a 229 (76-77-76) to finish third among the Royals.

Baseball

College of Central Florida freshman first baseman John Cassala hit .408 through 20 games. The Bartram Trail High graduate had 23 runs batted in, second on the team, and three home runs.

High Point University junior outfielder Luke Parker batted .276 in 10 starts. The Ponte Vedra High product, who played previously at Polk State College, had four RBIs. He had four stolen bases in as many attempts.

Tallahassee Community College freshman outfielder Chase Hahnemann hit .171 through 17 games. The past Shark had one home run and six RBIs. He had a 1.000 fielding percentage in 17 chances.

Out of Bartram Trail, Santa Fe College redshirt freshman Wyatt Meisterhans hit .274 in 21 games. The outfielder had one home run and nine RBIs and stole six bases in seven attempts.

South Georgia State College sophomore pitcher Cayden Hatcher was 0-1 with a team-best 1.96 earned run average in four games. The Ponte Vedra alumnus has signed to continue his career at Nicholls State University.

South Georgia State sophomore outfielder Sean Bryan hit .457 in 14 games. The Nease graduate had one home run and five RBIs.

Right-hander Joseph Hoelle, who played for the Bears, is a freshman pitcher for College of Central Florida.
