Retirement community helps rescue hard-to-adopt dogs

Cypress Village partners with Pit Sisters Dog Rescue to save lives

A team of Cypress Village employees went out to work at Pit Sisters Inc., a local dog rescue that focuses primarily on hard-to-adopt dogs risking shelter euthanasia. Volunteers from the retirement community bathed dogs, cleaned kennels, paneled insulation, painted, fenced and laid flooring at the Pit Sisters’ new TAILS Doc Tony Rescue and Rehabilitation Compound in Callahan on Wednesday, July 10.

Rescue dogs awaiting adoption reside on the compound in small houses donated by charitable individuals and organizations. Other dogs will live out the rest of their lives peacefully in these houses. Cypress Village purchased a doghouse for the facility which allowed Pit Sisters to provide housing for two dogs rescued from a dog-fighting ring. Many dogs are also placed in the TAILS program which entails inmates in Florida prisons training the dogs to ready them for adoptability.

“The Cypress Village family always comes together to help. This organization is one we truly stand behind for their mission. They are selfless and also making valuable contributions to our society through their TAILS program.” Executive Director, Ty Morgan said.

Mark Putala, owner of Kitchen and Flooring Design Center donated the flooring installed. Seabreeze Food Service, another Cypress Village vendor, donated several cases of peanut butter, green beans, sweet potatoes and carrots to the Pit Sisters organization.

“It was a great day for the dogs and an inspiring day for us to see so many people working so hard for our dogs,” Pit Sisters Founder, Jen Deane said.
