Several hundred spectators dressed in red, white and blue with American flags in hand lined the streets of downtown St. Augustine Nov. 11 for the city's Veterans Day parade.

Starting in front of the Castillo de San Marcos and ending at Francis Field, the parade featured more than 1,500 marchers, including veterans and active-duty units, local high school and college ROTC groups and bands, re-enactors in period dress from throughout American history and vintage military vehicles.

“Anybody that saw what I saw today would know that this country is not nearly through,” said Chuck Whatley, an 85-year-old Korean War veteran from Mississippi visiting St. Augustine for the weekend.

The Veterans Council of St. Johns County and the Ancient City Chapter of the Military Officers Association in America organized and presented the event.

“It brought tears to my eyes,” said Carol Owens, a Delaware resident visiting her sister in St. Augustine.
