St. Johns County high school football week one recap

Week one of high school football is officially in the books, and the matchups did not disappoint.

The Creekside Knights opened their season at home on August 21 against the Nease Panthers and earned the win with a final score of 21-14.

Quarterback Rozzi Sperry was on fire for Creekside throwing for 158 yards and one touchdown. Senior wide receiver Dario Griffin also had a strong performance for Creekside, picking up 66 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The Knights are 1-0 and will be back at home on Friday, August 28 to take on the Fleming Island Golden Eagles.

Despite the loss to Creekside, there were some positives in the game for Nease. Quarterback Aiden Phifer threw for 201 yards and had one rushing touchdown.

Nease will be on the road on August 28 to take on the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets at 7 P.M.

The Beachside Barracudas defeated the KIPP Bold City Greyhounds 58-0 on August 21.

The Barracudas are now 1-0 and will enjoy a well-earned week off. Their next game will be on Friday, September 4 as they travel to Tocoi Creek to take on the Toros.

The Ponte Vedra Sharks fell just short in their home opener on August 21 to University Christian with a final score of 31-29.

The Sharks will be back on the road on August 28 against the Bishop Kenny Crusaders.
