Former World No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion (eight, counting doubles) Mats Wilander brought his Wilander on Wheels (WOW) tour to the Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach on Easter Sunday.
Residents enjoyed the opportunity to play and practice with Wilander, an International Tennis Hall of Famer from Sweden. More than 15 residents went head-to-head with Wilander and his partner, Cameron Lickle, for the day.
Plantation Tennis Director Lars Hakansson, also from Sweden, grew up with Wilander and competed against him many times in various tournaments throughout their junior years.
Due to the success of this year’s event, Hakansson and Wilander are already planning this event for next year.
The Plantation at Ponte Vedra Beach features a championship golf course, a private beach club, tennis facility, fitness center and an amenities park that features a croquet lawn and a clubhouse with dining and social activities for all ages.
