THE PLAYERS new volunteer registration begins Nov. 3

Before we know it will be March and 2022 version of the THE PLAYERS Championship will be underway.

Registration for anyone interested in volunteering with the tournament for the first time opens Nov. 3. Returning volunteer registration began on Sept. 15.

Gathering volunteers is part of the planning that goes on behind the scenes to put on such a massive event.

“Many don’t realize just how all-encompassing the volunteer experience is at THE PLAYERS,” said Jared Rice, THE PLAYERS Championship executive director, in a recent newsletter. “Our volunteers have been the backbone of this championship since THE PLAYERS made its permanent home here in Northeast Florida in the late 1970s.”

More than 2,000 volunteers are used by THE PLAYERS during the duration of the event.

There are more than 40 committees for them to choose from that assist in a variety of areas, including player services, spectator services, facilities, volunteer services and management.

“There’s something for everyone and every interest,” Rice said. “I can assure you that once you give it a shot, you’ll be hooked.”

Certain safety guidelines are in place to help volunteers have a comfortable and safe experience while assisting with the needs of event patrons.

Some of the guidelines include wearing comfortable, close-toed shoes with slip-resistant soles, being equipped with sunscreen, hat and other protective clothing and being always aware of surroundings to avoid being hit by stray balls or equipment when around the course.

The latest COVID-19 protocols will also be in place.

One of the neat things about volunteering is the perks that come along with it.

These perks include a tournament golf shirt and jacket, which is the uniform of every volunteer, as well as discounted rates on food and merchandise at the event.

Additional merchandise and dining perks will be available to volunteers who work more than 24 hours during the tournament, while those who surpass 36 hours will receive discounted rates to play the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course and Dye’s Valley Course.

Parking and a shuttle service to and from the course will also be provided for volunteers.
