Everybody has a favorite superhero, and it’s a good bet their favorite superhero will make an appearance on the first ever SuperHeroes Express train rides in St. Mary’s, Georgia, on May 14 and 21.

At 10 am, noon, 2 pm, and 4 pm each Saturday, the SuperHeroes Express takes passengers on a journey through picturesque woodlands and marshlands to future-land where superheroes are competing to be the Number One Superhero.

Actors from St. Mary’s Little Theatre bring a futuristic adventure to life at the midway stage. Who will prove to be the super-est hero of all time? Superman? Batman? Captain America? Wonder Woman? As the train’s locomotive reverses directions, superheroes board the train for the return trip, entertaining the young and young at heart.

“This theme was requested by numerous people whose children dote on superheroes,” said Barbara Ryan, entertainment director for St. Mary’s Express. “The SuperHeroes Express will feature the most popular superheroes who will mingle with passengers and pose for photo opportunities.

“The SuperHeroes Express is great family fun,” Ryan continued, “and adults will enjoy the entertainment as well as they conjure up fond memories of their childhood.”

The SuperHeroes Express is the third series of themed train excursions for St. Mary’s in 2016, having just conducted two full days of sold out trains for the Peter Cottontail Express. Upcoming excursions include America’s Birthday Express, Catfish Express (that will depart from Kingsland to coincide with the Catfish Festival), Railroad Days, Halloween Express, and Santa Express.

“All rides usually sell out ahead of time,” Ryan said, so she encouraged people to make their reservations early.

The exclusive St. Mary’s Express “At the Throttle” experience will also be offered on the days of SuperHeroes Express. “At the Throttle” participants take the controls of a diesel locomotive, having the opportunity to actually run a locomotive.

“Everyone who has experienced ‘At the Throttle’ loves it,” Ryan said. “You have to be 16 to do it, but men and women alike really enjoy the adventure and they get their own certificate for bragging rights. Those interested in “At the Throttle” should call 912-729-1103 for more details.
