Nearly 500 people participated in the 1st Annual Psych Ed Connections Turkey Trot 10K/5K run/walk on Thanksgiving Day.
Organized by Fun4FirstCoastKids.com and Dr. Abigail Levrini, the event attracted hundreds of spectators, who cheered on the Turkey Trot participants and enjoyed the Advanced Disposal Thanksgiving Day Parade. The race also succeeding in raising $2,000 for donation to the local Youth Crisis Center.
“We were thrilled with the first year’s turn out,” Levrini said. “Families coordinated shirts, dressed up as turkeys, and came together to celebrate community, our local businesses in Nocatee, and to burn some calories before Thanksgiving dinner – all for a good cause.”
The Rice Orthodontics Fun Run was also popular, attracting more than 150 kids and adults who were handed purple and white pom poms at the finish line. Participants then lined the course to catch candy and necklaces as cheerleaders, decorated golf carts and vans paraded by. An ambulance and fire truck rounded out the day, as kids enjoyed climbing in the big trucks and meeting their local station’s heroes.
