Anthony Mondae, 72, died June 10, 2018. He was born Aug. 31, 1945, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and moved to Ponte Vedra with his young family in 1977. Tony loved Ponte Vedra and spent many happy years across the street from the beach in their home on the Boulevard. His wife of over 40 years, Joanna, died in October 2014.
Tony was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church, and he played a major role in the development of the volunteer fire department in Ponte Vedra Beach. He received a degree in urban planning from Southern Illinois University and started his career as a land planner for Federated Department Stores in Cincinnati, Ohio. Tony joined Reynolds Smith & Hills in Jacksonville in 1977 and worked for 14 years as director of development. In 1991, Tony founded Planvest, Inc., where he was owner and president, serving clients all over the U.S.
As a real estate developer, Tony conducted feasibility studies for Sawgrass, Mayo Clinic and the Orange Park Mall. He served in the Municipal Service District (MSD) in the early 1980s and was MSD president in 1986. He helped found the Ponte Vedra Chamber of Commerce in 1996.
Tony was a devoted father, grandfather and a beloved friend. His presence will be greatly missed. He loved to fish and walk on the beach; was an avid hunter, gardener and photographer; and he enjoyed music and sunsets. He particularly treasured the close group of friends with whom he traveled and shared family events.
Tony is survived by his loving family: daughters, Lara Mondae; and Amber Bozman, husband Chad and son Aiden; stepdaughter, Sara Brazda, husband Christopher and daughter Keane; stepson, Carter Brereton; daughter-in-law, Maria Zorn; and daughters Carly and Hannah. He was predeceased by his wife, Joanna Keane Mondae; stepson, Fredrick Bay Neal; and parents, Carolina and Sigmund Mizerski.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 20 at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
