While weeks have passed since THE PLAYERS Championship, the PGA TOUR’s flagship event is continuing its year-round commitment to supporting community organizations that serve citizens in the areas closest to its Northeast Florida headquarters.
For 25 years, the Red Coats, a distinguished group of civic and corporate leaders who oversee and manage volunteer efforts for THE PLAYERS, have led the program that grants funding to nonprofit organizations in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties. Eligible organizations include those that lead programs and initiatives focused on promoting youth education, health and wellness, character development and improving the quality of life in the five-county area. Grant awards range from $2,000 to $10,000.
“THE PLAYERS and the Red Coats have a very strong and rich history in Northeast Florida,” said Kevin Robbins, chair of the Red Coats’ Charity Committee. “Our gold standard of excellence extends beyond the ropelines and includes recognizing and supporting the incredible work being led by charities in our community. We look forward to reviewing this year’s applications and helping organizations on the First Coast for years to come.”
The deadline for grant applications, available online at https://www.theplayers.com/charity/info/red-coat-grants.html, is Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m.
In 2018, the Red Coats selected 72 nonprofit organizations from over 130 applicants. In September 2018, they continued their tradition of visiting several grant recipients including Special Olympics Florida, Building Abilities of Special Children and Adults (BASCA), UF Proton Health Institute and the DePaul School.
Currently comprised of 45 members, the Red Coats is a group of past tournament chairmen who have managed and coordinated over 2,000 volunteers serving THE PLAYERS Championship. Each Red Coat has served on THE PLAYERS volunteer leadership team for at least six years and led all divisions within the volunteer program.
