Attacking mindset leads to strong finish by Sharks on senior night

Every senior wants to finish their final home game in the regular season in the win column and for the Ponte Vedra Sharks’ boys and girls lacrosse teams this year’s senior classes were able to do just that as the boys defeated Oak Hall 11-4 and the girls squad beat the rival Nease Panthers 17-3 during a doubleheader on April 4.

It was the final home games of the regular season for both teams and although they will likely be playing in the Shark Tank once more during the postseason, this was the last scheduled contest for now and they were excited to end the regular season on such a high note.

The girls honored their seniors prior to their game with a special ceremony on the field with their families prior to the action, while the boys had already held their senior festivities in a prior home tilt, but playing one of their final games at home in a Sharks uniform still meant a lot.

The win over Oak Hall was a quality victory as the Eagles are ranked No. 15 across all classes in the state and No. 51 nationally.

The Sharks led 5-3 heading into the fourth quarter and took control of the game down the stretch with a relentless attacking approach offensively, as they scored five straight goals in less than a two-minute period.

For the girls, they came out firing on all cylinders and displayed with their own offensive intensity as they jumped out to a huge lead thanks to goals by Jane Hardy, Lamb Toole, Ila Crowe, Abby Kaltman, Kaylee Clarkson, and Gracie Madson, as they never looked back against the Panthers.

On a night that recognized the senior class, many underclassmen showcased their skill and showed that the future is extremely bright for the Sharks, as Crowe, Clarkson, Kaltman are all freshman and Madson is a sophomore.
