The Baptist Health Board of Directors has selected Michael A. Mayo as the new president and chief executive officer of Baptist Health in Northeast Florida.

Mayo is currently the interim CEO for five hospitals: Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches, Baptist Medical Center Nassau and Wolfson Children's Hospital and four satellite emergency centers, 55 primary care offices, more than 13,000 team members and 1,762 physicians.

Mayo has more than 32 years of health executive experience, including his most recent role as Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville hospital president.

During his career, Mayo has served as CEO of Orange Park Medical Center and of Frankfort Regional Medical Center, chief operating officer of Memorial Hospital Jacksonville, and president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center, a level I trauma center and the flagship facility of the Methodist Health System.

From 1989 to 1999, Mayo held progressive leadership positions with Baptist Health System of Birmingham, Ala., where he first joined as an administrative fellow.

Mayo earned his doctor of health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. He is board-certified in health care management and a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. He was elected to the board of governors of the ACHE class of 2022.

Mayo currently serves in various community leadership positions, including chair of the University of North Florida Healthcare Administration Advisory Board, Dean's Council of UNF, adjunct professor, master of health administration program at UNF Brooks College of Health and as a member of the board of directors at Community Hospice & Palliative Care.

"We commend Michael for the thoughtful, decisive and effective manner in which he has led Baptist Health as interim CEO,” said Baptist Health Board Chair Richard Sisisky. “We unanimously chose to forgo our search process because we realized the right leader was already with us."

"It is a rare privilege to lead the only faith-based, mission-driven, locally governed, nonprofit health system in our region,” said Mayo. “These characteristics have set Baptist apart, and this opportunity energizes me. We have an amazing team, and I see an exciting future for our community, patients, physicians and team members.”

Mayo and his wife Jennifer live in the Granada/San Marco area, and they have two daughters and four grandchildren.
