Caregivers Resource Forum to be held Dec. 2

Council on Aging (COA) will hold a Caregivers Resource Forum from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at COA Center at Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee, 351 Town Plaza Ave., Suite 205, Ponte Vedra.

Members of the public are invited to attend the free event and learn more about the resources, education and support services available to caregivers in St. Johns County.

Advance registration is required as space is limited.

Presentations and services will include:

Integrative Memory Enhancement Program overview 

9:30-10 a.m. Presented by Catherine Tupper, COA IMEP manager, and Myra Fisher, COA IMEP coordinator

IMEP, the Integrative Memory Enhancement Program, is COA’s groundbreaking program designed to slow the progression of memory loss and dementia, and boost cognitive reserves. The program provides stimulating group activities in a relaxed, classroom environment that encourages fun and camaraderie.

Mayo Clinic’s HABIT Program overview

10-11 a.m. Presented by Dr. Melanie Chandler, Ph.D., Mayo Clinic

Chandler is board-certified clinical neuropsychologist at Mayo Clinic Florida. Her professional responsibilities include a mixture of research, patient care and teaching. She co-founded the Healthy Actions to Benefit Independence and Thinking program that provides behavioral interventions and rehabilitation techniques in patients with mild cognitive impairment.

  

Community-Caregiving Caregiver Resources

11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Presented by Paulette Kozlowski, RN, COA adult day health care and community care-giving manager

Has your loved one been diagnosed with dementia? Facing problems and need someone to talk to? Not sure what to do next? COA’s Community Care-Giving program is here to help. It is a free, confidential service for St. Johns County residents and their families.

Aesthetix Plus Medical Spa will offer complimentary caregiver neck and shoulder massages in the Caregivers Forum meeting room to help relieve tension and stress from your day. They will also offer complimentary facial consultations.
