Chabad at the Beaches will celebrate its 15th year of commitment to Jewish life in the Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville Beaches communities with its annual Gala Dinner and Celebration on Sunday, June 3 at 4:30 p.m. at One Ocean Resort and Spa in Atlantic Beach.
This year's honorees are Robert and Carolyn Hirsch, who are being recognized for their financial support and involvement with the local Jewish community, as well as 14-year-old stars Noam Bensimon and Avi Kurinsky. Bensimon serves as the Gabai or synagogue sexton assisting in prayers, Torah reading and giving out honors. He has accepted an academic scholarship to the Manhattan Torah Academy High School in New York. Kurinsky, who is involved in almost every program, event or service at Chabad, will be attending Yeshivas Lubavitch High School in Cincinnati.
The evening will highlight the educational and social work of Chabad at the Beaches as guests enjoy a four-course dinner with first-class entertainment, including a performance from opera tenor/cantor David Babinet.
There are 250 Chabad institutions in Florida alone, seven of which are in the Jacksonville area. This year, 15,000 children attended Chabad’s 18 schools, 51 preschools, 85 Hebrew schools and 29 Summer camps in Florida. The gala is timed to coincide with the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing of) of Aaron Scharf, who is the center’s namesake along with wife Blanche.
