Last season, the Creekside Knights were a young, inexperienced team, and their 4-7 record was proof of that. Rebuilding is a part of every team, and Head Coach Sean McIntyre is no stranger to it. Last season, his five offensive starters went through baptism by fire, but they have all returned this season with some experience under their belt.
“We feel really good about the players and the work they have done this offseason,” said McIntyre.
The Knights opened the 2026 season with a bang as they defeated the Nease Panthers 21-14 on Aug. 21. Nease had won the previous two meetings between the two.
Knights quarterback Rozzi Sperry started seven games last season as a sophomore and, according to McIntyre, is no stranger to hard work.
“He had a really good offseason. He was at every summer workout,” said McIntyre.
Sperry threw for 158 yards and one touchdown in the game against Nease.
On Aug. 28, Creekside defeated the Fleming Island Golden Eagles 45-28. The Knights are now 2-0 on the season, which is a complete 180 from their 0-2 start last season.
With 28 seniors on the team this season, the Knights have what it takes to be successful.
“We feel like for us to win, we have to win in all three phases of the game — offense, defense and special teams,” said McIntyre.
According to the head football coach, the goal at Creekside High School is to help every student become the best version of themselves both in the classroom and on the field.
“Our opponent every single week is ourselves, and if we are the best version of us and the team across from us is better that night then there is nothing else we can really do,” said McIntyre.
Creekside’s slogan this season is “Work to Win,” and so far it seems like they are fully prepared to do just that.
“The work we do is what matters,” said McIntyre.
Creekside’s next game will be on the road against the Fletcher Senators on Sept. 4.
