Douglas Anderson, Fletcher High closings highlight need for discussion

Area teens to hold virtual debate on reopening schools during pandemic

Posted

Teen influencers in I’m A Star Foundation will host a live debate Thursday., Oct. 29, about reopening schools amid a pandemic. The public is invited to watch and vote for STAR students ages 12-18, as they exchange ideas at 6 p.m. The event will be streamed from Zoom to YouTube Live.

In the past week, Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and Fletcher High School campuses have both temporarily closed and moved to virtual learning due to new coronavirus cases. I’m A Star students say much of the public discussion has been amongst adults, and this is a chance to share their thoughts.

STAR teen servant leaders are split into two teams of 19. The “pro” team will debate the “con” team about the advantages and disadvantages of transitioning to full-week brick-and-mortar school.

Parents, local, regional and national leaders have been invited to participate.

For the Zoom meeting, the meeting ID is 371 545 8649, and the passcode is 023649.

To watch on YouTube Live, go to Youtube.com/ImAStarFoundation.

This event is free and open to the public. Viewers will be asked to vote in an online poll for the winner of the debate.
