EMMA Concert Association announces coming shows

EMMA Concert Association’s 47th season continues, bringing music and dance groups from throughout the country to the Nation’s Oldest City. The nonprofit music organization partners with Flagler College, offering high quality programs and giving back to the community through music scholarships and grants.

Next on stage, Broadway singers and musicians join “Neil Berg’s The 70s” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, for iconic music and stories of the by 1970s. The show will feature music by Elton John, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and many others — a celebration of what some consider the greatest decade of rock and roll.

All concerts take place in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., in downtown St. Augustine. Free parking is available at the St. Johns County Council on Aging, with a complimentary shuttle to and from the venue.

In addition to concerts, EMMA gives back to the community with grants for St. Johns County music teachers and community music groups, along with scholarships to college students majoring in music.

“Our mission is to continue music education,” said Joanne Everett, the president of the Board of Directors for EMMA Concert Association.

Also this month, South Carolina Ballet will perform “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” celebrates the 200th anniversary of Felix Mendelssohn’s iconic score. This production brings Shakespeare’s beloved comedy to life through a blend of dance and music, transporting audiences to a fantastical world where love, magic and mischief intertwine. Set in an enchanted forest, the ballet follows the adventures of four young lovers and a group of amateur actors who become entangled in the whimsical disputes of the forest king and queen, Oberon and Titania.

SPRING CONCERTS

The Jacksonville Symphony will perform “John Williams’ America” at 2 p.m. March 8. The orchestra pays tribute to Williams’ cinematic and patriotic music.

Chicago Tap Theatre takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. April 25. The Chicago Tap Theatre’s mission is to share the creativity, history and joy of tap dance. Chicago Tap Theatre is a dance company based in Chicago that celebrates tap dance through performance, education and community engagement. They are known for their high-quality tap dance and live music performances, as well as their educational programming that aims to make tap accessible to all. The company’s mission is to preserve and promote tap dance as a vital art form.
