Nonprofit animal sanctuary and event venue Fantasy Farms will host its annual open house March 21 in honor and memory of Daryl Barker. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m.
Barker was the wife of Fantasy Farms’ CEO Frank Barker. A dedication to Barker's Aviary is slated for 1:30 p.m.
The open house will also feature an About Creamery Ice Cream truck for guests craving a sweet snack and a raffle for a new 2018 Ryder Club Golf Bag autographed by Jim Furyk and Thomas Bjorn. Tickets for the raffle cost $20.
Kathy's Creative Gardens and Nursery staff will also be attending the event, answering any gardening questions attendees may have before the summer weather kicks in.
The open house will also feature items regarding the farm’s latest news, such as “volunteens” Leah and Tina, who take the time to work on the farm on their days off from school to help the animals on the farm, specifically horses Beamer and Ginger and their miniature sister, Angie.
“At first, Beamer and Angie were shy, but now (the horses) come running out to play when they see the girls,” the farm said in its “save the date” invitation. “The girls even took string and made a hay bale to feed the horses. No wonder they love each other.”
The farm also extended its thanks to the Publix Super Market at the Shoppes at Palm Valley for the “fruits and vegetables the animals at Fantasy Farms are munching on,” adding that thanks to Publix’s generosity, the animals can stay nourished and healthy.
