First Coast Cultural Center celebrates Christmas in Summer

Posted

First Coast Cultural Center is offering a collection of handmade items by local artists during its “Christmas in Summer Sale” at 6000B Sawgrass Village Circle in Ponte Vedra. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with after-hour appointments available.

One highlight is a collection of custom-made quilts by local resident Jacque Huber. Each is bursting with color and character and selling for $100 apiece. Other featured items include nature photography and furniture by Michael Cenci, hand-designed earrings by Jenn Geiger and close- up wildlife images captured by James Staman, Jr.

Additionally, a new painting exhibition, “Native Flora, Fauna, and Fantasy” by Sandra FitzSimmons, recently kicked off with an opening reception. FitzSimmons’ creations capture the diversity of Florida and will be displayed through Oct. 2.

“The Cultural Center is currently a Floridian-themed space, displaying colorful paintings of indigenous plant life, swamps, rivers, photography of regional birds of prey and more,” according to Silvia Romero, FCCC operations director. “Artist Michael Cenci even uses wood from local trees to create finely crafted furniture. This is an exciting time at FCCC to support local artists.”

Furthermore, the popular Holiday Shoppes will be back Nov. 22 (from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Nov. 23 (from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.). There will also be a private preview on Nov. 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Shoppers will be able to purchase local, national and international goods from returning vendors and newly acquired merchants. This annual event is a community favorite and includes handmade carvings, accessories, jewelry, sweets, clothing, shoes, glasswork and more.
