Frank R. Collier, MD, age 87, of Atlantic Beach, Florida died Sept. 27, 2018, at Fleet Landing Nursing Home in Atlantic Beach. He was born on Nov. 10, 1930, in Floral Park, New York to the late Frank and Janette Weisenfeld Collier.
Frank married the love of his life, Patricia A. Collier, in 1960. Together, they raised five amazing children. Frank was an OB/GYN who delivered at least 6,000 babies during his career. He practiced 35 years in New York and seven years in Savannah, Georgia. Frank also volunteered with Doctors Without Borders in a clinic in Guatemala, where patients lined up for days to see him.
In 2002, Frank and Patricia moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida to retire. Frank enjoyed building museum-quality model boats. He was very athletic and enjoyed snow and water skiing, golf and tennis. Most of all, Frank was a very caring, compassionate, strong and kind man. He was also strong in his Catholic faith. Frank had a sense of humor and thought Donald Duck was a gem. He loved to imitate Donald Duck for his children, grandchildren and the mothers he treated. They all got a good laugh.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Collier of Atlantic Beach, Florida; children, Christine (Ron) Bond of Jamestown, Rhode Island; Dr. Frank (Krysten) Collier Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; Cathy (Frank) Fernandez of Lake Mary, Florida; Dr. Kevin (Maybelle) Collier of Washington, D.C.; John (Kevin Calabro) Collier of Seattle, Washington; seven grandsons; and four granddaughters.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with Fr. Bastian Matthew as celebrant. The family would like to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for their care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or the Alzheimer’s Association.
