Gov. Rick Scott visited St. Augustine-based business Solar Stik last week to announce Florida’s lowest unemployment rate in more than a decade.
Dropping to 3.7 percent, the unemployment rate is the lowest it’s been since April 2007. Scott also revealed at the local business that the private sector added more than 26,000 jobs in July in Florida. The candidate for U.S. Senate noted that the state has added 211,000 jobs in the last 12 months and nearly 1.6 million private sector jobs since December 2010.
“This state is the best state to do business in,” Scott declared at the event on Friday, Aug. 17.
The governor also presented Brian Bosley, Solar Stik CEO and co-founder, with the Governor’s Ambassador of Business Award. The medal is given to individuals for their efforts in creating jobs and opportunities for Florida families. According to Solar Stik, the business has added four new hires to its now 35-member team during the past three months. Solar Stik is a manufacturer of portable hybrid power systems for military applications in the 1 to 15 kW power spectrum.
“This award is a reflection of our commitment to revive American manufacturing starting here, in St. Augustine,” Bosley said in a statement sent to the Recorder. “The most amazing parts of this entrepreneurial journey called Solar Stik are the relationships that we have built along the way. Our team members are amazing! They are what make this life worth living!”
