Jacksonville Spartans seeking alumni to participate in fall service project

Jacksonville Spartans, the official North Florida affiliate of the Michigan State University Alumni Association, is looking for all local Michigan State University alumni to participate in the group’s fall service project, which supports The Salvation Army and The Mission House.

Jacksonville Spartans are collecting non-perishable food items until Thanksgiving for meal baskets. Spartan alumni are asked to participate by bringing non-perishable food items to either or both of the next two MSU football watch parties at Philly’s Finest Oct. 21 and Nov. 4. Philly’s Finest is the official game watch location of the Jacksonville Spartans.

Alumni club President Toni Chrabot is hoping all local Spartans will support the effort.

“Our slogan is ‘Spartans Will!’” she said. “With that in mind, I hope all local Spartans will make it a point to support this effort by sharing a few cans or boxes of non-perishable food items. A small gesture of generosity and kindness can make a big difference in the life of someone else.”

The collection of non-perishable items is in coordination with the Salvation Army’s Can-U-Care program. A Salvation Army red barrel will be located at Philly’s Finest during the next two game watches. The non-perishables collected will be used to put Thanksgiving Day meal baskets together for delivery to local families.

Philly’s Finest is located at 15th Avenue North and 3rd Avenue (A1A) in Jacksonville Beach. More information about Jacksonville Spartans can be found at www.floridaspartans.org or by connecting on Facebook. To get involved, send an email to jaxspartans@gmail.com.
