Here’s a look at the schedule:
Haydn & Beethoven by Candlelight – Oct. 9 Widely known as the “Father of the String Quartet,” Franz Joseph Haydn, along with his onetime student Ludwig van Beethoven, shaped the genre more profoundly than any composers in history and laid the foundation for centuries of musical innovation. The evening begins with Haydn’s “Emperor” Quartet, celebrated for its lyrical grace and a noble second movement that later inspired a national anthem. The program concludes with a bold and visionary Beethoven quartet that bursts with fiery energy and emotional depth, showcasing his evolution of the form his teacher helped define.
Tchaikovsky Piano by Candlelight – Jan. 22 Immerse yourself in the expansive emotion and lyrical beauty of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor, a powerful tribute to his friend and mentor Nikolai Rubinstein. From its tender opening to its virtuosic finale, the trio is a masterwork of passion, elegance and Russian Romanticism.
Mozart by Candlelight – May 28 The symphony’s inaugural Chamber Series concludes with a program that delights in the uplifting music of Mozart for winds and strings. Giovanni Bertoni and Les Roettges join forces with the symphony’s principal strings for the warm and elegant Clarinet Quintet and the D major Flute Quartet sparkling with playful charm.
