Jenna Alexander’s ‘Salt Run and the Sea’ at the Beaches Museum

Finishing out a four-month run, Jenna Alexander’s “Salt Run and the Sea” collection was on display at the Beaches Museum from Feb. 21 through June 22.

The collection, which was created with oil on canvas, featured multiple works of art focusing on the core beauty of nature in the Northeast Florida region.

“Nature's patterns, vibrant colors and changing light are what inspire me to paint,” Alexander said in an “About The Artist” feature displayed in the museum. “Experiencing the morning’s first light flooding through fuzzy dunes off the Atlantic or walking under a dusky sky, accompanied by sounds of waves rolling in from the silver sea, or collecting those concave oyster shells that have formed from mere elements of the earth, are the scenes and objects that urge me to create.”

Alexander’s collection included dreamy, impressionistic paintings of beach sunrises, oyster shells, sand dunes and more.

The artist says that her creative process involves trekking through nature, snapping photos of things that inspire her and then translating that beauty through her brushwork.

“I explore various forms of texture through my brushwork, which can range from thick and impressionistic to smudged and blended,” Alexander said in the feature. “I am most drawn to rich, contrasting tones that reflect glimpses of light.”
