EARTH DAY

As a celebration of Earth Day this week, there are many things we can do in our gardens to help the environment! The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, and this year marks the 50th Anniversary. Even though we are social distancing, here are a few ideas to help save the Earth:

  • Plant trees for shade, this can help heating and cooling costs if placed correctly. They also provide clean air and oxygen.
  • Make a compost pile. Composting can help you use kitchen scraps and add nutrients to the soil.
  • Planting an organic vegetable or herb garden can help reduce the use of pesticides.
  • Creating projects out of recycled items. You can make a bird feeder out of a milk carton or planters out of old tires.
  • Collect rainwater to water potted plants.

Instead of taking a drive, ride your bike around the neighborhood and enjoy nature.

  • Drink out of a reusable bottle instead of plastic and ditch the plastic bag and use a cloth bag at home.

Flower of the Week: Gazania
