Special to Ponte Vedra Recorder

Hannah Berman has been recognized for her golf play. The Ponte Vedra High School graduate was named Nov. 3 as the Gulf South Conference freshman golfer of the month. She was cited for her performance at the NCAA Regional Preview, where she shot a 148 (74-74) to tie for sixth overall, third among the Argonauts.

“It was great,” Berman said of the honor. “Everything went really well. I wasn’t too confident going in.”

She said the coach had four qualifiers to determine which women would compete in the event, whose course she had not played until the practice round. “It had pretty tight fairways,” she said. “You don’t have a lot of room for error off the tee.”

Berman hit the fairways, and her “putting was good,” she said. “The greens were really nice.”

Berman said she wasn’t confident entering the event because she shot a 256 (82-85-89) in her only other showing, at the Ross Resorts Invitational. She competed as an individual. “I was pretty nervous,” she said about her debut. “I wanted to make a good impression.”

Going forward, Berman said she is “just trusting my ability and making sure that I’m practicing.”
