Quinn Carey has earned a starting spot for the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo men's basketball team.

The Ponte Vedra High School graduate is in his first season at SUNY Geneseo. He transferred after playing two years for Roberts Wesleyan College, where his 12.2 scoring average last year ranked second on the team.

The junior guard was a reserve during SUNY Geneseo's first four games and had at least 12 points in three of them. He posted season highs of 24 points and three rebounds in the third game.

But the 6-foot-3-inch Carey started the next six games and had 20 points in a win over Potsdam.

Through 10 games (5-5), his 12.7 scoring average ranked third on the team.

Football

Southeastern University senior linebacker Will Tillo was named to the All-Mid-South Conference Sun Division second team. In 10 games, the Bartram Trail High graduate had 63 tackles, which was second on the squad, as well as two sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Another from the Bears, wide receiver Romello Bentley had three receptions for 9 yards in three games for Stephen F. Austin State.

Redshirt senior Kyle Chung started at right offensive tackle for Virginia Tech in its loss to Oklahoma State in the Camping World Bowl. The former Shark started all 13 games this season.

Men's swimming

Ponte Vedra Beach resident James Costello placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke for Trinity College against Wheaton and Wellesley colleges. The freshman was a part of the 200-medley relay team that finished third.

Women's basketball

Nova Southeastern University junior Megan Piggott started two of the first 10 games. The former Shark averaged 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds, both fourth on the team. She had a season-high 17 points against West Alabama.

Ponte Vedra resident Katie Cramer had a season-high eight points for Saint Vincent College against Illinois Tech. The forward also had a season-high two rebounds.
