Lady Sharks play for first state title

The Lady Sharks earned a spot in the Class 6A volleyball championship by virtue of a three-set win over Bishop Kenny last Saturday at the Sharks’ gym. Ponte Vedra dispatched the Crusaders 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23 and will meet Bishop Moore for the championship Nov. 12 at West Port High School gym in Ocala.

Ponte Vedra earned the right to play for the title with victories over Weeki Wachee, Belleview and Santa Fe. Stat leaders for the Sharks in the semi-final game against Kenny included Mackenzie Morris with 15 kills and Emily Waud with eight. Savannah Fowler led the Sharks in assists with 30, while Eve Beech was tops in digs with 25 while Morris had 23. Fowler, Beech and Morris each had a pair of aces.
