Each new year, we reflect over the past and consider the year that lies ahead. It does not matter who you are, it is always better and most rewarding to have a plan and or goals to achieve. We are all very busy with what life throws at us every day. Have we become too busy to make a difference? I think not.

Most times, it is just a matter of getting better organized and finding an interest. How do we find the extra time? Why don’t we start by putting down those electronic devices that take up half of our day? What I have noticed over the years is that there are so many ways to make a difference in and around our community. Things don’t just happen! They happen because people decide to give of themselves and the time needed to make a difference. Whether you consider a church, school, sport, homeowners association, community group, club or politics, there are so many ways to get involved and help out.

I recently took part in an important community issue that was reviewed and ultimately decided on by our county government. At that meeting, I noticed the same small group of individuals there speaking on behalf of the local organizations they represented. It just so happened that those who did speak managed to hold the line and protect the integrity of our county land development code. Big decisions were made that day!

As we move ahead, let’s consider the following: It shouldn’t be just a few making a community difference. It takes all of us!
