Local soccer teams victorious over opponents

The Ponte Vedra Sharks boys varsity soccer team currently hold an impressive 12-1-3 record.

On Jan. 15, the Sharks defeated the Stanton Blue Devils 2-1. This was their third consecutive victory against Stanton.

Charlie Itkoff and Antonio Mahfuz Neto were the goal scorers for Ponte Vedra.

On Jan. 23, the Sharks defeated the Englewood Rams 5-2. This game marked eight this season where the Sharks have won by three or more goals.

The Beachside Barracudas boys varsity soccer team handed the Sharks their first loss of the season on Jan. 28 with a final score of 1-0. Beachside’s goal came courtesy of Elian Borselino.

The Barracudas’ current record is 14-2-2, and they have won nine of their last 10 games. Beachside will take the field again on Feb. 6 against the Chiles Timberwolves.

The Nease Panthers boys varsity soccer team fell to the Buchholz Bobcats 2-2. Even though the tie score would suggest the match was a draw, the Bobcats were credited with the victory after posting nine goals in the shootout. Jacob Damato and Deryck Dervin were the goal scorers for the Panthers, bringing their combined season total to 11 goals. Nease now has a record of 12-8-2. The Panthers will return to action on Feb. 6 to take on the Bartram Trail Bears.
