Sawgrass Marriott receives award

The Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa recently received a 2017 Top New or Renovated Meeting Site Award from ConventionSouth. The resort – which is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation of its facilities – was one of 55 meeting facilities across the south to be recognized with the award.

UNF professors honored as Fulbright Scholars

Three University of North Florida professors were recognized recently for having been Fulbright Scholars over the years.

UNF President John Delaney joined with Philip Rakita of the Fulbright Association Nov. 8 to present medallions to Dr. Mark Tumeo, Dr. Alison Bruey and Dr. William Slaughter. Tumeo, an Atlantic Beach resident, was a Fulbright Scholar in Peru in 1990 and Germany in 1999. Bruey, also from Atlantic Beach, was a Fulbright Scholar in Chile in 2003, while Slaughter, a professor emeritus in American literature, traveled to Egypt in 1980 and China in 1987. He lives in Jacksonville Beach.

Founded in 1946 by U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright, the Fulbright program offers competitive, merit-based grants for international education exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists.

SCORE presents Watson Realty with Longevity Award

SCORE’s Jacksonville chapter has honored Watson Realty Corp. with the Thriving and Surviving Honoring Longevity 2016 award

Presented Oct. 24 at the “Thriving and Surviving: The Last 50 Years” event held at Unity Plaza, the award recognized Watson and other businesses founded in the Jacksonville area that have thrived for 50 years or more.

“It was certainly an honor to be recognized among the many reputable local companies

celebrated at this event,” said Watson Realty Corp. President Ed Forman, who accepted the award. “It truly is a powerful statement for an organization to have continually been in business for 50 years.”

SCORE is a nonprofit association whose purpose is to develop and educate small businesses nationwide. The organization is supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration and currently has a network of more than 11,000 volunteers and more than 320 chapters across the country.
