One Ocean Resort & Spa is stepping up to help one of its own, hosting a benefit fundraiser for an employee battling a serious illness.

“Cocktails and Contributions” will be held Sat., July 23 at 5 p.m. as a benefit for longtime resort bartender Hugh Thompson. A Neptune Beach resident, Thompson was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

The event was organized in part by Sileshi Mengiste, divisional vice president of Remington Hotels Luxury Division, One Ocean’s management’ company.

“I had the privilege of hiring Hugh when the resort opened in 2008,” Mengiste said. “Since that time we have built a wonderful friendship. It is an honor to host this event for our friend and bring together all those who have been touched by Hugh to help support and raise the funds needed to get him through this difficult journey.”

General admission tickets are $50 per person and will include heavy hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment by Bad Habits and access to a live and silent auction. Premium tickets are $75 per person and will include “Hugh’s Your Daddy” cocktails, beer, wine and spirits.

All proceeds from the ticket sales and auctions will be donated to Thompson to lessen the burden of the financial stress during his illness. A GoFundMe page has also been set up to help with financial support for Thompson’s treatment.
