Paddle Pilates makes waves in Ponte Vedra

Posted

Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Pilates, the latest “floating fitness class” to make waves in Ponte Vedra, launched its second season last week.

The 90-minute core-strengthening class is held at the Guana Lake as well as on the Intracoastal Waterway. Classes are offered through North Guana Outpost and are taught by certified SUP and Pilates instructor Kelly Rowles.

The idea behind these floating fitness classes, practitioners say, is that by using the SUP as a mat, Paddle Pilates activates more stabilizer muscles than one would typically use in a studio. Other benefits include improved balance, strength and stability – all while enjoying the serene setting of the Northeast Florida waterways.

Classes are available for all levels, and class schedules can be found online at www.northguanaoutpost.com. Private classes are available upon request.

Paddlers should bring water, sunscreen and a towel with them to class. Land instruction will be provided before padding to a destination to practice Pilates. Provided equipment includes a Stand Up Paddleboard, paddle and an inflatable life vest.

The fee for the initial class is $35; follow-up classes are $25. A four-class package is available for $90. Rates are reduced for those who bring their own equipment.

The next scheduled class is Saturday, April 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Guana Lake. Classes are also scheduled for April 7, 16 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Nocatee Kayak Launch and April 30 from 4 to 5:30p.m. at the Nocatee Kayak Launch. Class times are subject to change, so participants should check the calendar for the most up-to-date information. To sign up for a class, call (904) 373-0306 or stop by the North Guana Outpost shop, located at 4415 Mickler Road, Ponte Vedra Beach.
